(As part of the Northern Nevada RAVE Family Foundation.) Helped take care of children with special needs for four hours, playing with them and keeping them out of trouble.
By far one of the most challenging and insightful volunteer experiences I've had. There was often a communication barrier that was difficult to overcome - sometimes I wouldn't understand what they wanted, their emotions would flip upon a light breeze, or my instructions would go unnoticed. Patience rewards all, though, and while I wouldn't ever want to go into early education, it certainly went a long way towards my appreciation of simple, effective language.
SkillsUSA Nevada - Courtesy Corps
Helped run tasks for the SkillsUSA NV officers at the 2019 state conference. Sold pins, cleaned up events, and helped guide guests.
Helped guide a school's academic decathlon team, particularly with regards to event strategies and specific topics in English and mathematics; also assisted in event operation and cleanup during the school's Fall Festival.
Wrapped sibling blankets for care packages and wrote birthday cards.
Rita Cannan Elementary School
Participated in a school cleanup.
Cleaned Rock Park during an annual region-wide event.
AACT Bike Shop
Helped clean up and reorganize the shop for Mechanical P&D after the summer.
